Quote of the Month: If you are not spending your chess thinking time making decisions, what are you
doing?
In last month’s The Fun of Pros and Cons we discussed the issue of playing slowly and trying to have
fun making decisions. This month let’s continue that theme, but, rather than address the benefits of that approach,
concentrate upon a thought process that facilitates making those decisions more effective.
Chess is a thinking game. When good players take a long time on their move, the one thing they are likely
doing is making decisions.
The two biggest decisions you have to make are
* What moves are worth considering? (See Initial and Final Candidate Moves) and
* Among those moves, which is the best I can find in a reasonable amount of time?
