What exactly is systems thinking? In simplest terms, systems thinking is a way of seeing and talking
about reality that helps us better understand and work with systems to influence the quality of our lives. In this sense,
systems thinking can be seen as a perspective.
p.11 Another thing that makes understanding the behavior of complex systems so challenging is the
existence of delays in the system. Every link in a system contains a delay.
p.12 Systems thinkers work from a central premise: If you don't know how you're producing certain
outcomes, you'll have great difficulty determining how to produce better outcomes! Sound obvious?
p.12 A diagram of reinforcing and balancing processes at work in the system we're interested in
can be an excellent first step to figuring out how the feedback is generating behavior that we want to change.
