Gibson Burrell

p.527 organization theory for me... is a discourse designed explicitly for those within academia.

p.529 The real world is made up of essences or has an inner constitution (of forces, structures, processes, entities, etc.), which are not amenable to human observation. Essences or deep structures are knowable but are not observable.

p.529 Observable reality - the level of appearance and how it is experienced - cannot be explained in terms of empirically based 'facts'.

p.530 Predictability is thus a false hope. But outcomes can be explained post facto.

p.533 Research questions that have answers are what doctoral candidates are expected to ask.
