p.219 If our goal is to move toward... freedom from domination...
then our first task is... to understand the realities of power. Here we turn to the work of Michel Foucault, who
has tried to develop such an understanding.
p.227 Foucault focuses his efforts on the local and context-dependent
and toward the analysis of strategies and tactics as basis for power struggle.
p.228 The value of Foucault's approach is his emphasis on the dynamics of
power. Understanding how power works is the first prerequisite for action, because action is the exercise of power.
And such an understanding can best be achieved by focusing on the concrete.
p.229 A strong civil society guarantees the existence of conflict. A strong understanding of civil
society, and of democracy, must therefore be based on thought that places conflict and power at its center,
as Foucault does and Habermas does not.
