Matthew Bellamy of the Rock group Muse had an earlier career where he worked at the help desk of an Information
Technology company.
Matthew did nothing all day, like most IT people, except construct plots to make computer users unhappy and
to essentially lock them out of their computers.
There was this excellent cafeteria located on the first floor of the building he worked in, and all the IT
people would go for lunch at around noon every day.
Matthew and his fellow IT workers would often challenge each other to food eating contests - the winner would get bragging
rights until the next day when they would again see how much they could consume from the "all you can eat" buffet.
Matthew was inspired to write this song during one recent contest, where he powered ahead of his co-worker at the very last
minute to take the prize for that day.
Matthew scribbled these words down on a sheet of paper and sent the song to his producer, who promptly rejected it.
Matthew was later sent a lay-off notice, so he had the time to re-write the words, and the song became an instant
success.
