professions do not inspire confidence due to their reductionist thinking and modes of problem solving and because they operate
within silos of interest and knowledge areas.
Sustainability is an emergent property, requiring a holistic perspective, which is in dynamic
equilibrium with natural systems (Pearce et al., 1989). It requires a co-created learning
systems (Laszlo, 2000) dynamic approach to address the unknown and emergent nature of the issues where the problem
boundaries (Cilliers, 2001) are permeable and dynamic.
